Andreessen Horowitz launches investment fund for games and meta universes
Venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) announced the launch of a $600 million fund with a focus on “gaming infrastructure and metaworld technology.”
GAMES FUND ON will focus on funding studios, infrastructure startups and a wide range of applications that will revolutionize the gaming industry. The company’s analysts have estimated the current capacity of the market at $300 billion.
At the moment, Web 3.0 is more of a set of ideologies, but the virtual reality technology being created for meta universes with P2E models will form the basis of this concept, the company said.
The framework will support portfolio companies from building digital communities to recruiting development teams, managing the virtual economy and licensing intellectual rights.
The foundation has recruited the following experts: David Bazzuki, founder of Roblox; Jason Citron, founder of Discord; Mark Merrill, co-founder of Riot Games; Mike Morhaime, co-founder of Blizzard; Alex Larsen and Jeffrey Zirlin, co-founders of Sky Mavis; Kevin Lin, co-founder of Twitch; Mark Pinkus, founder of Zynga; Riccardo Zacconi, founder of King.
